Henry Heard enlisted as a private in Co. A, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry and on February 13, 1864 was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
He was part of a detail to return to Georgia for fresh horses, leaving December 1864. While in Georgia, Heard was captured in Augusta.
