R.H. Lofton enlisted May 8, 1862 at Augusta with Capt. Russell. Pvt. Lofton was with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Soon after the 7th was organized, Pvt. Lofton transferred to the Navy at Charleston, S.C. No dates were given.
