Thomas J. Vaughn enlisted March 1, 1863 in Augusta with Capt. Russell. Pvt. Vaughn served with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. Vaughn was at the recruiting camp in Lynchburg for a perion of time and later was detailed with the horses. In the late fall of 1864 he received an issue of clothing.
