Records show Pvt. Carswell was present on all roll calls through May. He was captured at Louisa Courthouse, Va. June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillian Station.
Carswell was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. June 20, '64 and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 9, 1864. On March 10, 1865 he was transferred for exchange.
Pvt. J.D. Carswell surrendered and was paroled May 19, 1865.
