W.D. Maxcy was enlisted January 1, 1862 in Charleston by Capt. Miller. He served with the 21st Battalion, Co. C and
when the 7th Ga Cavalry was organized on February 13, 1864, he was transferred to Company B of the 7th.
In April 1864, as the 7th was preparing to move to Virginia, Pvt. Maxcy was detailed to go with his company's baggage.
He had been without a horse since March 12th. In October, he was still listed as "without a horse".
