M.F. Adams was enlisted by Lt. Langston into Co. B, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry on September 13, 1863 at Camp Lee. Then through consolidation of units, was transferred to Co. C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Adams was admitted into Wayside Hospital on August 15, 1864 and then to Jackson Hospital, Va. on the 16th, diagnosed with diarrhea. He returned to duty on August 25th. In October 1864 he was listed on sick furlough for 30 days beginning on the 21st of October.

On May 17, 1865, M.F. Adams was paroled at Hartwell, Ga.
