H.C. Alexander enlisted June 12, 1863 with the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry in Co. B. Capt. Davies signed him up at Camp Lee. When The 7th Ga Cavalry was organized on February 13, 1864, he was transferred to Company C of the 7th.

Pvt Alexander was reported absent July 15,1864, hospitalized in General Hospital #9 with a dislocated hip (femur). He was moved to Richmond on the 17th. In August he was listed as absent, without a horse and sick since July 15th. On September 5th, he was detailed as a Nurse at Jackson Hospital where he had been a patient. He returned to normal duty on October 16, 1864.

H.C. Alexander was officially paroled at Hartwell, Ga., May 1865.
