N.A. Bowles served in the 24 Battalion, Co. B and in February 1864 when the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized through consolidation of units, he was assigned to Co. C of the 7th.

On June 11, 1864, while in Northern Virginia with the 7th, he was captured at Louisa Court House. He and all his equipment fell into enemy hands. Pvt. Bowles was sent to Point Lookout, Md. and in July was transferred to Elmira Prison, NY.

N.A. Bowles died in prison on November 29, 1864 of pneumonia and was buried in grave # 978 at Elmira.
