J.H. Buffington enlisted as a private in Hall County, Ga. October 1862 and in 1863 was transferred to Co. B, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry.
With the consolidation of units on February 13, 1864 he was transferred to Co. C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Private Buffington surrendered with the regiment April 9, 1865 at Appomattox, Va.
