John M. Trippe enlisted May 14, 1862 in Augusta. He served in Co. B, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
His records show that he was present on roll calls through October. On July 16, 1864 his horse died.
Pvt. John M. Trippe surrendered April 9, 1865 at Appomattox along with the remaining men of the 7th and General Lee.
