E. Buffington of Hall County, Ga., enlisted in E.C. Anderson's Partisan Rangers June 14, 1862 at Athens, Ga.

With the organization of the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry this became Co. B. Now as, Jr. 2nd Lt. Buffington, he transferred to Co. C as a recruiting officer.

With the consolidation of units on February 13, 1864 he was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

In early December 1864 2nd. Lt. Buffington was detailed to buy fresh horses in the Savannah area. He was at Charlotte, N.C. when the regiment surrendered at Appomattox.
