Merriday H. Culpepper at the age of 17, enlisted in Gainesville, Ga. on June 3, 1863 in Co. C, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry. With consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry on Feb. 13, 1864.

He was in Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Va. from November 12 to December 1, 1864,

Private Merriday Culpepper was in Georgia on detail to obtain a horse when General Lee surrendered. He was captured on May 8, 1865 at Athens, Ga. and paroled the same day.

Merriday H. Culpepper died in Hall County, Ga. and is buried at Timberidge Baptist Church Cemetery there.

He was the older brother of John E. Culpepper and nephew of Caleb O. Latty, both in Co. D, 7th Georgia Cavalry.
