Ransom T. James enlisted September 20, 1862 and about six months later was transferred to Co. C, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, then again on February 13, 1864 was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. James was injured when Yankee cavalry horses ran over him breaking his left shoulder and pelvic bone along with numerous serious cuts and bruises. He was released July 4, 1865.

Ransom T. James is buried at Ben James Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Pierce County, Georgia.
