James Rowell enlisted September 22, 1862 at Fort Camp with Capt. Hopkins. Pvt. Rowell served in the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A then in Co. C. until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. Rowell served as a Blacksmith which gave him forty cents more daily than a soldier private.
Rowell was present on rolls through July and part of August. Afterwards he was sick through September. No further information.
