W.H. Dampier enlisted June 30, 1862 in Savannah. He was with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. Dampier was present on roll calls until August 23, '64 when he was admitted to Jackson Hospital at Richmond diagnosed with dysenteria. On August 28th he received a furlough, destination Valdosta, Ga.
