Fletcher A. Exley enlisted April 24, 1862 at Georgetown, S.C. He served in Co. B of the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until February 13, 1864 when the 21st and two other units were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. Company B of the 21st became Co. E of the 7th.
Records show that Pvt. Exley was present at roll calls with the exception of a short sick leave in April.
