Marquis L. Exley enlisted August 3, 1863 at Macon. He served in Co. B, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until February 13, 1864 when Exley was assigned to Co. E of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. Exley was listed as being present through October 1864. On November 17th he was admitted to Jackson Hospital diagnosed as febris int. He returned to duty November 30, 1864.
