Stephen B. Hargrove(s) enlisted September 24, 1863 in Decatur. He served in Co. B and later in Co. E of the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

On April of '64, Pvt. Hargrove received a leave just prior to the unit moving to Northern Virginia. He was instructed to and did rejoin the Company at Augusta.

Pvt. Hargrove was captured June 11, 1864 near Louisa Courthouse, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. June 20th and on July 25th was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. On May15, 1865 he was listed on an Elmira roll of prisoners. He gave his name as Stephen B. Hargrove, was listed as having volunteered September 15th, 1863. He indicated that his desires was to go to his home at Savannah.

Pvt. Stephen B. Hargrove was released June 14, 1865. His description upon release was as follows...complexion, fair; hair, auburn; eyes, blue; height, 5 ft. 8 inches.
