John J. (I) Heidt enlisted May 13, 1862 in Savannah with Capt. Banks. Pvt. Heidt was in Co. B, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. John J. Heidt transferred to Co. D, 22nd Battalion, Heavy Artillery on April 15, 1864.
