Ephraim Helmly enlisted May 13, 1862 in Savannah with Capt. Banks. Pvt. Helmly served in Co. B, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. Helmly's records showed that he was present on all roll calls through December 1864 but another record of his says that he transferred to 22nd Georgia Battalion, Heavy Artillery. I found no account where he was with the 22nd.
