J.T. Landing enlisted May 13, 1863 in Savannah. He was with the 21st Battalion, Ga Cav, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Landing captured June 11, 1864 near Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe June 20th and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. July 27, 1864.

He was transferred for exchange February 20, 1865. He was sent to James River, Va. for exchange and was received at General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond March 3, 1865. He was furloughed on March 19th.

Soon after this and on the way home, Pvt. J.T. Landing entered general Hospital #10 at Salisbury, N.C. He was diagnosed with diarrhoea and died March 28, 1865.
