James Madison Davis was enlisted in 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry September 22, 1862 at Waynesville by Capt. T.S. Hopkins.

Pvt. Davis served with Company A of 24th until February 1864 when through consolidations of units the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was formed. He was assigned to Company G of the 7th at this time. He was shown as present at all roll calls through October of '64.

Records were few after this date although it is known that James Madison Davis survived the war.
