F.A. Barnard served in the Hardwick Mounted Rifles as Sergeant in Company A. When the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized F.A. Barnard was listed as 1st Lt.. It appears as though he was first in Co. K and then Co. H of the 7th.

Lt. Barnard was captured at Louisa Court House, Va. during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was released from prison on October 27, 1864 and returned to his regiment.

F.A. Barnard surrendered in Thomasville on May 9, 1865.
