G.B. Barnes served with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles in Co. B and later was assigned to Co. H of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry when it was formed on February 13, 1864.
Pvt. Barnes transferred from the 7th Georgia Cavalry to the 9th Regiment, Georgia Volunteers on September 20, 1864.
