Nathan Brown served in Company B, Hardwick Mounted Rifles with the rank of sergeant. With the organizing of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, Sgt. Brown was assigned to Co. H of the 7th, retaining his rank of sergeant.

On June 11, 1864, Brown was captured at Louisa Court House, Va., sent to Point Lookout, then transferred to Elmira, NY prison.

Sgt. Nathan Brown died at Elmira of typhoid fever September 26, 1864 and was buried in grave # 476.
