T.J. Hodges enlisted October 3, 1863 in Bryan County with Capt. J.L. McAllister. Pvt. Hodges served in Co. B, Hardwick Mounted Rifles until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. H, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Hodges was captured June 11, 1864 near Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. on June 20th and on July 25th was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

On November 18, 1864, Pvt. T.J. Hodges died while in prison at Elmira. The cause was listed as chronic diarrhoea. His effects were listed as follows; 1 coat, 1 pair of drawers, 1 pair of socks, 1 shirt and 1 jacket.
