J.G. Moore enlisted October 9, 1863 in Bryan County with Capt. Hines. Pvt. Moore served with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. H, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Moore was absent 4 days in April - Afterwards he was he was present on roll calls until June 11, 1864 when he was captured near Louisa Couthouse, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th then transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 25, '64.

Pvt. Moore was transferred for exchange on October 11, 1864 he was paroled at Elmira and the actual exchange was on on October 19th.
