Samuel Nessmith enlisted December 19, 1862 in Bryan County. He was with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. H, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Pvt. Nessmith was listed as absent 3 days in April. On the May/June roll he is shown as being sick in hospital with intermittant fever. Then on the September/October roll he was on sick furlough.
