Wiley Phillips (Wyley) enlisted August 1, 1863 at Macon. If this enlistment is correct, he transferred to the Hardwick Mounted Rifles. He was with the HMR until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. H, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Phillips was captured June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th and on July 25th transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

As many of the men at Elmira, Pvt. Wiley Phillips died March 15, 1865 of chronic diarrhoea. He was buried in grave # 1795.
