B.W. Rustin enlisted August 29, 1863 in Bryan County with J.L. McAllister. Pvt. Rustin was with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. H, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Rustin was present at roll calls through May. He was captured June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va., then to Point Lookout, Md. and after that transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

Pvt. B.W. Rustin died of remittent fever August 19, 1864. He was buried at Elmira in grave # 67.
