Mitchell Sikes enlisted April 3, 1862 in Bryan County. Pvt. Sikes was in Co. B, Hardwick Mounted Rifles until February 13, 1864 when the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized through consolidation, Co. B of the HMR was then Co. H of the 7th.

Pvt. Sikes was present on roll calls through October with the exception of a short period in April. He entered hospital January 24, 1865 at Salisbury, N.C. with intermittant fever, returned to duty February 11th.

In his records was a memorandum from POW records stating that he was reported at Camp Parole, Md.
