George A. Boyd was enlisted into the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. D in Cobb County by Lt. Glover. With the consolidation of units, Co. D of the 24th became Co. I of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Boyd was present on all roll calls until June when on the 11th of 1864, he was captured in the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe June 20, 1864 and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. July 25, 1864.

Pvt. George A. Boyd was paroled from Elmira March 19, 1865 and sent to James River for exchange. After the war ended he was paroled at Thomasville, Ga. May 10, 1865, listed as having sandy hair, blue eyes, fair complexion and height of 6 feet, 0 inches.
