Nicholas Johnson enlisted with Capt. T.S. Hopkins in Wayne County. He served in Co. A, C and D of the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry. After the consolidation of units, Co. D of the 24th was moved to Co. I, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Johnson was present throughout the war. In late fall of '64 he received a clothing issue consisting of: 2 shirts, 3 pr drawers, 1 pr shoes, 2 pr socks and a blanket.

Pvt. Nicholas Johnson surrendered at Appomattox April 9, 1865 along with the remaining men of the 7th and General Lee.
