Pvt. S.H. Mitchem was in Co. I, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, the same as his brother, Eugene. Both were sons of Murrell J. and Elizabeth Arnold Mitchem of Morgan County, as were Columbus B. Mitchem and James Nathaniel Mitchem, who also served the Confederate States Army from Georgia.

Pvt. S.H. Mitchem was dropped from the roll August 1864. No details on the reason, could have been sickness, age or some other reason.
