James C. Goodson enlisted October 17, 1863 in Bryan County with Capt. J.L. McAllister. He was with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. A and on February 13, 1864, through consolidation of units he was transferred to Co. K of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Goodson was captured at Trevillian Station June 11, 1864. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. July 25, 1864.

Pvt. James C. Goodson died of pneumonia on August 16, 1864 and was buried in grave # 62.
