Nathan E, Grice enlisted August 4, 1863 in Bryan County. He was with Co. A, Hardwick Mounted Rifles until February 1864 when the units were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. Pvt. Grice was then in Co. K of the 7th.
Brice was captured June 11, 1864 near Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. July 25, 1864.
Pvt. Nathan E. Grice died September 19, 1864 at Elmira and was buried in grave # 329.
