L.S. Quarterman Enlisted April 3, 1862 in Bryan County with Capt. J.L. McAllister. Quarterman served as 1st Lieutenant Co. A, Hardwick Mounted Rifles until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. K, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

L.S. Quarterman was promoted to Captain of Co. K of the 7th. An interesting part of his duties was to procure forage and grain for the horses. In April there were 82 horses; May, 81; August, 15; and 12 in September.

Capt. Quarterman was wounded by a gun shot described as a compound fracture of the left tibia on September 29, '64. He entered an application for sick leave and received on October 20th a 60 days leave of absence to Bryan County. Upon departure he received pay for June through September for a total of $560.00.

Capt. L.S. Quarterman surrendered and was paroled in June of 1865 at Gainesville, Fla..
