W.A. Williamson was appointed Asst. Surgeon May 20, 1863 and served with the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry as Assistant Surgeon. When the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized through consolidation of units, Williamson retained his status as Assistant Surgeon, now with the 7th.

In April 1864, Williamson was in Savannah. Shortly after that, the 7th went to Northern Virginia. On the rolls of May through September, he was located in Dinwiddie County, Va. W.A. Williamson was "in the field in Virginia" on December 4, 1864. On February 27, 1865 he was located at Frazer's House on Williamsburg Road.

One pay voucher was in Williamson's records which showed him receiving $110 for 1 month pay.
