James W. Kent enlisted August 1, 1862 in Augusta with Capt. Russell. Pvt. Kent was in Co. A, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Kent was wounded at Trevillian Station June 11, '64. He was sent to Jackson Hospital at Richmond diagnosed with v.s. left knee. On July 13th he was given a 60 day furlough.

Pvt. James W. Kent surrendered and was paroled May 19, 1865 at Augusta.
