William W. Lewis enlisted August 20, 1862 in Augusta with Capt. Russell. Pvt. Lewis was with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Lewis's horse was captured June 11, '64 during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He received an issue of clothing between October and December.
Pvt. William W. Lewis surrendered and was paroled May 20, 1865 at Augusta.
