R.J. Milton enlisted May 8, 1862 in Augusta with Capt. Russell. Pvt. Milton was with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Milton was present on roll call through August with the exception of being in hospital from June 4, '64 to June 10th.

On September 29th he was captured near Reams Station, Va. He was sent to City Point, Va. Afterwards there is no indication as to where he was sent. On November 1, 1864 Pvt. R.J. Milton was exchanged -- no details.
