William L. Platt was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant April 15, 1862 and later attained rank of 1st Lt. W.L. Platt. He was with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Lt. Platt was captured June 11, 1864 near Louisa Courthouse, Va. and was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. then Point Lookout, Md. and finally to Ft. Delaware on June 25, 1864.

Lt. William L. Platt was released by order of General Grant June 5, 1865. His description: residence, Richmond, Ga.; complexion, ruddy; hair, brown; eyes, grey; height, 5 feet 10 inches.
