James J. Russell enlisted April 10, 1862 in Augusta with Capt. Russell. Pvt. Russell served with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
Records show that Pvt. Russell sick, in Hospital in Augusta, April and part of May '64.
