John H. Smith, of Perry, Ga., enlisted as a private in Co. A, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry September 20, 1863 at Augusta, Ga.

With the consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. A, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry February 13, 1864.

Private Smith surrendered near Appomattox, Va.

On a list with the heading, "Post Register, Albany, Ga." dated May 25, 1865. Surrendered at Thomasville and paroled at Albany.
