Jasper L. Brinson enlisted May 15, 1862 at Savannah. 1st Sgt. Brinson served in Co. C of the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry. When the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized, Brinson was assigned Co. B. of the 7th.

Records show that he was present at all roll calls until June when he was listed as "in the hands of the enemy". He was captured June 11, 1864 and sent to Fortress Monroe June 20th. Then was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 25, 1864.

1st Sgt. Jasper L. Brinson didn't survive the horrible conditions at Elmira. He died December 11, 1864 of pneumonia and was buried in Grave # 1191.
