M.J. Brinson enlisted May 15, 1862 at Savannah. He served in the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. C. He was transferred to Co. B, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry February 13, 1864.

Sgt. Brinson was present throughout the war with the exception of spending time with his family for a few days prior to leaving for Virginia. He was shown as being present through October. In late Fall of '64 he was issued a clothing issue.
