Manning Herrington served with Millers Rangers and when units were consolidated to form the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, he was transferred to Company C of the 21st.

After being in a number of engagements, he was detailed to take charge of the Mechanical Corps.

Manning was one of 10 brothers who fought for the Confederacy. Three were killed in action and six were prisoners of war.

In defense of Southern States rights he died of extreme exposure on September 11, 1864 at age 32.

Manning Herrington is burried at Herrington Cemetery near Nunez, Ga. in Emanuel County.
