Joseph M. Lovett enlisted May 15, 1862 at Savannah with Capt. Miller. Pvt. Lovett served in Co. C, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. B, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Lovett was captured June 11, 1864 near Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th and was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 25, '64.

Pvt. Joseph M. Lovett died of chronic diarrhoea on September 1, 1864 and was buried at Elmira, Wood Lawn Cemetery in grave # 131.
