Robert McClelland enlisted December 15, 1862 in Charleston with Capt. Miller. Pvt. McClelland was in the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. C until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. B, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. McClelland was captured June 11, 1864 near Louisa Courthouse, Va. From there he was sent to Fortress Monroe June 20th ond on July 25, '64 transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y..

Pvt. Robert McClelland died of pneumonia November 21, 1864 and was buried at Elmira in grave # 923.
