Warren W. Ricks enlisted as a private in Miller's Rangers, Co. C, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry June 1862 in Savannah. With the consolidation of units on February 13, 1864 he was transferred to Co. B, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

During the battle of Trevillian Station, Va., Pvt. Ricks was captured and sent to Point Lookout, Md. From there he was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 25th.

On February 13, 1865 Pvt. Warren W. Ricks was transferred for exchange. He was sent to James River, Va. for the actual exchange.
